New York, 1974. Humans and animals started disappearing suddenly. Those with loss, grieving or blaming others. Or going mad, take your pick. Little do they know, Creatures invisible to the normal human eye are responsible, The Carrions. A parallel realm exists, The Blackeye. Basically New York, but more cursed in terms of looks and events. There are also people with irregular, dark Magic, a genetic mutation caused if the pregnant mother got attacked by a Carrion, but lived. They're called The Lux.
