The world is divided into two interconnected layers: the Sphere and the Ground. The ground knows nothing about the sphere other than it drops garbage and people that die on impact. The world is modern to advanced in technology The Sphere is a highly structured civilization built on order, cleanliness, and strict social hierarchy. Life in the Sphere is controlled through regulation, efficiency, and constant removal of waste. Society is organized, but deeply divided by status and access to resources. What is unwanted is removed from daily life entirely. Beneath the Sphere lies the Ground, a vast unstable world formed from centuries of discarded materials. It is not a void, but a dense evolving landscape of refuse, broken infrastructure, and reclaimed ruins. Over time, it has developed into a harsh but living environment where survival depends on adaptation. In the Ground, discarded objects and emotional memory can accumulate unusual significance. Some items develop into Jinki—objects that respond to emotional history and can manifest unique abilities. Individuals capable of using them are known as Givers. The Ground is also inhabited by Trash Beasts, entities formed from unstable waste accumulation and environmental pressure. These beings vary in form and behavior, and often pose serious threats to settlements and travelers. Human life in the Ground exists in scattered settlements built from salvaged materials. These communities rely on cooperation, scavenging, and protection from specialized groups such as the Cleaners, who combat Trash Beasts and help maintain local stability. There is no single governing authority over the Ground. Instead, order emerges temporarily through factions, survival groups, and shifting alliances. Despite its danger, the Ground is not purely a wasteland. It is a system of constant reuse and transformation, where discarded things—objects and people alike—can gain new purpose and value. The Sphere and the Ground are not separate worlds, but two states of the same system: one defined by controlled order, the other by uncontrolled adaptation.
