In the twilight realm of Eldarion, a kingdom of rolling forests and mighty mountains, whispers spread of a shadow lurking just beyond the mortal realm. The Drow, or dark elves, had long been exiled to the subterranean city of Nar’thul, but ambitions of dominion had grown in their ancient minds. When the surface lands prospered under the rule of King Eryndor, the drow saw opportunity in chaos, and they turned to dark magic, forbidden and potent, to achieve their goals. The Dark Pact The drow priestess Velasha Veyra, master of the Umbral Weave, called upon the forbidden powers of Lolth, weaving spells that blurred the line between life and death. Her coven tapped into shadow essence, siphoning the life force of captured surface elves, transforming their anguish into raw arcane fuel. Through ritualistic incantations and the creation of Obsidian Sigils, Velasha could manipulate the minds of influential nobles, turning allies into unwitting puppets. The Infiltration Under the guise of a traveling caravan, Velasha's agents—stealthy rogues and shadow mages—erded into the kingdom's capital, Rivenspire. They cast subtle enchantments across the courts, planting seeds of mistrust between the king and his council. As diplomats quarreled and generals argued, Velasha unleashed the first strike, plucking a small border town into the Shadowfell for her servants, leaving the populace mysteriously vanished. The Shadow Coup With whispers spreading like wildfire, Velasha confronted the King’s Consul, offering them immense power in exchange for loyalty. Some succumbed, becoming conduits for her dark magic, while others resisted, only to disappear under the cover of a moonless night. Using her Umbral Cloak, Velasha herself traversed invisibly, positioning allies and staging traps. Within weeks, Rivenspire was stricken by unexplained calamities—plagues, famine, and apparitions—though the drow remained unseen. The people began murmuring of “the creeping shadows” taking hold of their kingdom. The Final Ritual At the Crescent Moon Temple, a site long abandoned, Velasha prepared the Night of Binding, a ritual designed to merge the Drow realm of Nar’thul with Eldarion. She summoned creatures of darkness, twisting reality so the stars dimmed and shadows consolidated into tangible forms. The king himself, drawn by prophecy, confronted her. Swords clashed, but the moment of confrontation revealed the true cost: Velasha could draw upon the very king’s life force, entwining her soul with control over the kingdom. Echoes in the Shadows As dawn approached, the kingdom trembled. Whether Velasha succeeded entirely, or whether a band of heroes—rangers, wizards, and paladins—emerged from the mists to thwart her, remained a tale told in hushed tones across taverns. The dark magic of the drow had changed Eldarion forever. Shadows lingered long after, a reminder that even the brightest kingdom could fall under the cunning and relentless ambition of those who command the night.
